Problems with WP-SuperCache

First let me start by say­ing I do not feel there is any inherit flaw in WP-SuperCache but merely a flaw in my con­fig­u­ra­tion which I hope the Word­Press com­mu­nity at large can help me fig­ure out.

When I decided to switch my blog over to Word­Press I was con­is­tently advised to install WP-SuperCache, which I did. Unfour­tantly I have bat­tled slow load times and 404 errors con­stantly when view­ing my site. I have a num­ber of plu­g­ins installed so last  night I began to method­i­cally remove plu­g­ins to find the cul­prit. The prob­lems went away after deac­ti­vat­ing WP-SuperCache. It’s con­fig­u­ra­tion is mostly stock. My real “mon­key wrench”  in my server setup is Win­dows Server 2008 (with Apache NOT IIS). So far I have been unable to rem­edy the cause of the slow down and 404’s.
