Q: Which City Was the Only City in the Continental United States to be Bombed During World War II?
Answer: Boise City, Oklahoma.

The MonÂuÂment to the BombÂing in Boise City, Oklahoma
On the evening of July 5, 1943 the crew of a B-17 FlyÂing Fortress Bomber took off to fly a rouÂtine trainÂing misÂsion. The plan was to fly to a bomb range in Texas but the crew became disÂoriÂented and instead headed for the small town of Boise City. The bombÂing began at approxÂiÂmately 12:30 a.m when the crew misÂtook the lights around the town square for lights at the tarÂget range. The bombÂing conÂtinÂued until power plant worker Frank GarÂrett rushed to the staÂtion and killed the power shutÂting off the lights. WithÂout the lights on the tarÂget the bomb run ended and the B-17returned home not yet knowÂing of the misÂtake they had made. ThankÂfully no one was killed or injured due to the use of pracÂtice bombs. Also propÂerty damÂage was minÂiÂmal, destroyÂing only an abanÂdoned garage. The B-17 crew later became highly decÂoÂrated war heroes fightÂing over the skies of Berlin. For the 50th anniverÂsary of the bombÂing a monÂuÂment was unveiled and an audio recordÂing from one the pilots was played where he issued an apology.
