Connecting Your Blog to Facebook: Updated
A few weeks ago I wrote an artiÂcle on “How to ConÂnect Your Blog to FaceÂbook.” FaceÂbook is designed around conÂverÂsaÂtion so pubÂlishÂing your post there is an easy way to creÂate  interÂacÂtion with your friends and bringÂing the comÂments back makes it very easy to share your friends insights with the world. In that artiÂcle I highÂlighted a couÂple of pluÂgin to help out. While those pluÂgin work well I’ve since disÂcovÂered some new techÂniques that I feel do a betÂter job.
ImportÂing posts into FaceÂbook as Notes
It turns out that FaceÂbook can do this out of the box with no extra pluÂgÂins needed.
Login to Facebook
Go to www.facebook.com/notes.php
Click the “Import Blog” link on the right side of the page

Enter your blog’s RSS feed into the “Web URL” text box and click “Start ImportÂing“

Sync FaceÂbook comÂments back to WordPress
SyncÂing the comÂments back can be a litÂtle tricky. FaceÂbook does not have an API for retrievÂing comÂments so it is more or less screen scrapÂing. This means anyÂtime FaceÂbook updates their HTML (Which they do often!) it requires a change in how the comÂments are retrieved makÂing this a movÂing tarÂget. The best pluÂgin I have found so far is called FaceÂbook ComÂmentsTNG. It’s still very early in develÂopÂment (it was updated 43 hours ago) and it’s a semi-manual process but it works beauÂtiÂfully! Update: The develÂoper has added in a timer so that it will run automatically
Allow peoÂple to leave comÂments using their FaceÂbook ConÂnect account.
I have switched my comÂment sysÂtem to ECHO from the guys at js-kit.com and it hanÂdles this for me but if you want to use the stanÂdard WordÂPress comÂmentÂing sysÂtem there is a pluÂgin for you! WP-FacebookConnect will add a FaceÂbook ConÂnect icon that will allow peoÂple to sign in and use their FaceÂbook avatar in their comÂments.
